St John the Evangelist, St Johns Road, Crowborough, East Sussex, TN6 1RZ
St John’s Church Crowborough has a responsibility to promote the welfare and safety of all children, young persons and vulnerable adults.
The church of St John the Evangelist is an Anglican parish church on the outskirts of the town of Crowborough, and situated in Ashdown Forest, part of the Sussex High Weald designated as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The church was designed and built firmly within the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England and was one of the first Anglican churches to reflect the ideals of the Oxford Movement, when in the 1830s the Church of England sought to restore the continuity of its links to the Early Church and Catholic doctrine.
Today St John’s provides a place of prayer, contemplation and stillness and uplifting worship for anyone visiting or living in the area. Our tradition values the sacramental life of the church, adhering strongly to doctrine such as the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the continuity of the apostolic orders of Bishop, Priest and Deacon. A significant stress on liturgy and worship - performed in order to maintain the beauty of holiness - makes worship at St John’s an experience which is intended to appeal to one's whole person - to heart as well as head, to senses as well as to intellect.
Our principle act of worship Sunday by Sunday is the Parish Mass. Look for details of activities for children and young people (see Children) and other services during the week (see Services). We aim to be a welcoming, hospitable and inclusive church and have a lively congregation with a wide diversity of ages and backgrounds, many from beyond the boundaries of the parish.
Come and see for yourself.
